Dr. Maynor
Robert C. Maynor, Jr., M.D. grew up in Jackson, Mississippi and received his Medical Doctorate Degree from the University of Mississippi. He completed his internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the University of Texas in Dallas, and completed his ophthalmic surgery residency at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama. Dr. Maynor served as a U.S. Air Force Flight Surgeon prior to beginning his private practice in ophthalmic surgery in Huntsville, Alabama over thirty years ago.
Dr. Maynor is Board Certified in Ophthalmology and is certified by the American College of Eye Surgeons in Cataract Surgery. He has authored articles and conducted seminars in ophthalmic surgical technique and he also introduced many advances in ophthalmic surgery to North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley, including laser eye surgery (Argon and YAG), small incision no-stitch cataract surgery, intraocular lens implant, corneal transplants, laser trabeculoplasty for glaucoma, ophthalmic plastic surgical procedures, and retinal detachment and retinal laser surgery.
Dr. Maynor served as a Chief of Surgery at Humana Hospital, Chief of Staff at Crestwood Hospital, and Secretary of the American Board of Eye Surgeons. He served for fifteen years on the Alabama Medical Licensure Commission and currently serves on the State Health Planning Commission.
Dr. Mitchell
In 1999, Dr. William Mitchell joined Dr. Robert Maynor in private practice, forming the Maynor & Mitchell Eye Center. A native of Auburn, Alabama, Dr. Mitchell attended medical school at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He then completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee at Memphis.
Dr. Mitchell is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Mitchell is known for always staying on the cutting edge of technology in the area of cataract surgery, using the most modern techniques available today. In fact, he’s the first in the area to use the breakthrough Crystalens® intraocular lens for post-cataract clear vision treatment. His extensive experience, together with an unparalleled commitment to offering the latest in procedures and technology to his patients in a caring and personalized environment, has made him one of the most sought-after eye care physicians in the area.
Dr. Lee
Dr. Lee grew up in Haleyville, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he received his medical degree. He then performed his Ophthalmology residency training at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore. After finishing his residency, Dr. Lee went into private practice for several years in Louisville, Kentucky, honing his skills in cataract surgery. With the intent of broadening his skill set, Dr. Lee returned to academics to perform two additional years of fellowship training in Corneal and LASIK surgery at both the University of Louisville, and the University of Texas Medical Center in Dallas.
Dr. Lee gained extensive knowledge and expertise in the areas of Corneal and Refractive surgery as a result of these two additional years of training. He was then able to apply this knowledge and training as one of the Eye Consultants of Atlanta. Here, Dr. Lee served as a referral doctor for patients requiring corneal transplants, LASIK surgery, and complicated cataract surgery. Dr. Lee also specialized in the new DSAEK corneal transplant procedure, as well as the premium intraocular lens for cataract patients, such as the Crystalens, Rezoom, and Restore Lens. Dr. Lee has extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of Refractive surgery including the new Staar Visian Collamer lens implant procedure. Furthermore, Dr. Lee is comfortable with such surgical techniques as amniotic membrane transplants, pterygium excisions, secondary intraocular lens implants, limbal stem cell transplants, and artificial iris implants.
Although Dr. Lee enjoyed living in Atlanta, the desire to be closer to his family in Alabama has brought Dr. Lee to Huntsville. Here he has settled with his wife Kari, who is also a physician, specializing in Urogynecology, and his two children Sam and Zoey. Dr. Lee is excited to join such an innovative and technologically advanced practice as the Maynor and Mitchell Eye Center.
